Our advisers are qualified to advise on income in retirement and, in particular, on the complexities of the NHS Pension Scheme and its many terms and conditions. As a ‘final salary’ scheme it is extremely valuable, but it has its limitations at retirement:

• the scheme performs like an annuity so no investment is passed to your family after your spouse has died
• tied to the Retail Prices Index
• limited Pension Commencement Lump Sum

Other options are available at retirement no later than 60 which carry income guarantees plus potential growth from equities. Capital producing retirement income can be passed to family and succeeding generations, spouses enjoy equivalent incomes, not 50%.

Retirement at 55 is possible without NHS pension abatement to 75.4%. This opportunity ends in 2012.
